Abstract

RNA SELEX is an attractive strategy to develop aptamers for probing and treating disease. This systematic evolution of RNA molecules is a complex process with a variety of modifications available depending on the target or application. The RNA SELEX process is described here with a review of various selection methods. Process design principles, post-selection aptamer discovery pathways, and roadblocks to RNA aptamer development are discussed. This review finishes with recent applications and future directions of RNA aptamer technology.
